The Musculoskeletal Research Group (MRG) at Newcastle University is an international team of researchers dedicated to determining the causes of, and developing new treatments for, musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders. We are a highly interdisciplinary group bringing together expertise in genetics, immunology, rheumatology, orthopaedics, engineering and other disciplines.
Our goal is to understand the mechanisms underlying MSK diseases. We aim to provide results and discoveries that can be translated into diagnostics, treatments or therapies to reduce global health burdens. Our focus is on delivering effective treatments to patients with MSK disorders. Newcastle hosts several key Centres of Research Excellence, including the Arthritis UK (ARUK) Centre of Excellence in Tissue Engineering and MRC/ARUK Centre for Integrated Research into Musculoskeletal Ageing, has an active research programme with direct patient benefit as the key driver behind all of our translational projects.
